Problem: During operation of a 3.5T forklift in a cement production plant, forklifts occasionally collide with rows of packed bricks, the impact can cause the stack to collapse or be pushed onto a fellow forklift operator in the parallel row, thus causing serious injury and damage.
Solution: APS was approached to provide a solution to assist with operators visibility in blind spots and provide an audible alert when reversing. A single sensor, 7” monitor with camera system was proposed. APS was involved from the system configuration and installation process; to training of the operators to ensure competency, operation and maintenance of the radar system.
Goal: To achieve a safer work environment for the forklift operators and reduce potential of incidents recurring. The solution implemented has exceeded the clients expectations, no further incidents have occurred since implementation, testament to the solutions success is this system has been installed to over 75% of the fleet has been installed with this active visual / audible alert blind-spot solution, the rollout is ongoing throughout 2023 to achieve 100% fleet installation.
